About the Band

If you're a huge fan of the The Amazing Spiderman movies, I bet that you probably heard of The Edge. The Edge is a song from TASM2's OST, sung by none other than Tonight Alive.

"Tonight Alive is an Australian five-piece pop punk band from Sydney, formed in 2008. The band consists of lead vocalist Jenna McDougall, lead guitarist Whakaio Taahi, rhythm guitarist Jake Hardy, bassist Cam Adler and drummer Matt Best.

How I Discovered Tonight Alive

One thing about me is that I absolutely love listening to pop/punk/rock music. It's not really hard to find good pop/punk/rock bands out there who write meaningful lyrics and compose amazing melodies. One time, I saw a friend's tweet about a particular band named Tonight Alive. I was really curious about them because hey, you don't just find punk bands out there in the streets with girls as their lead vocalist. Usually, bands have male leads right? So yeah, TA caught my attention.

Favorites

First of all, who wouldn't love The Other Side? Personally, I think it is their best song by far. Okay, so what's it about? It is a song about having a best friend, and loving him more than how friends are supposed to love each other. It's also a song about being left behind by the person you loved the most.

Don't Wish. This song is from their fourth album, The Other Side. Actually, this album is the best among the best. This song is about a person you love/used to love. You broke up, and then he has a new one. But, he still keeps on calling you and talking to you, and trying to win you back which makes you think that he still loves you, and he's just using his new one to forget you. And you're telling him "don't wish that she was me."

Wasting Away. This is my favorite track off of All Shapes and Disguises. This song is about unrequited love. It's about "waiting for nothing and wasting away."

Safe and Sound. This title is so mainstream haha most of the popular artists have this as a song title. So, this song is about having a special someone and everything will be alright as long as you're with him, "even if it all came crashing down, as long as you're around, I'll be safe and sound." Among all of the songs in What Are You So Scared Of? I think this is my favorite.

Complexes. This is the first TA song that I listened to. I must say that I was very moved by it, causing me to download their albums. Look where it got me. So, this song is about knowing that the person you love isn't really that proud of you, and he always lets you down, but you love him well enough to hold on even if there really isn't anything more to hold on to. "I wasn't strong enough, and you didn't give enough when I needed you." is probably one of the most heartbreaking lines ever.

Rooftop to the Street. This song is from All Shapes and Disguises, and it is about being better off without that person, but you just like him so much, and you want him to know how much he means to you.

My Favourite Thing. This song is also from All Shapes and Disguises and it is about losing faith in a relationship, but that relationship is your "favorite thing by far" so you hold on because it's the best thing that happened to you.
